British Airways debuts student bundle fares in China

Time:2014-04-17
China, April 17, 2014 – British Airways today announced a pioneering ticketing package that provides students in China with a low stress and affordable transition to study in the UK or Europe. The airline’s “Student Bundle Fares” extend the benefits of its highly popular student special fares to include preferential pricing and double baggage allowance for students and their parents or peers.

The “Student Bundle Fares” for return flights to the UK and Europe start from:

Bundle fares for two passengers
Departure from Beijing CNY 6,190/person
Departure from Chengdu CNY 6,520/person
Departure from Shanghai CNY 6,680/person

Bundle fares for three passengers
Departure from Beijing CNY 5,920/person
Departure from Chengdu CNY 6,240/person
Departure from Shanghai CNY 6,390/person

“Student Bundle Fares” are available for booking until December 31, 2014. Student customers booking these fares will enjoy the flexibility of outbound travel until December 31, 2014, with unlimited date changes. Double baggage allowance of 46kg (two bags with a maximum weight of 23kg each) is allowed for each passenger. In addition, before June 30, 2014, students who book the student fares can join Executive Club, British Airways’ highly popular frequent flyer programme, and earn double Avios credit points. These credit points can be redeemed for a free flight from London to most European destinations.

“Our student special fares have been well received ever since they were launched in the China market,” said Tracy Dedman, British Airways’ regional general manager, Greater China and the Philippines. “During this time, we observed that some Chinese parents travel with their sons or daughters to the UK or Europe to give them some extra support as they settle in. A growing number of students also prefer to travel with their peers, therefore we believe it will be a nice touch to extend the benefits to their companions,” said Dedman.

In order to help potential student customers find travel companions and enjoy the “Student Bundle Fares” together, British Airways has launched an online networking campaign, “British Airways Student Alumni: Fly Together”, on Douban, a popular social media platform in China. From now until June 30, 2014, students can visit brand.douban.com/britishairways/room/14360/#content, choose their destinations and universities, and then search and connect with their schoolmates to see if they are interested in purchasing the bundle fares together.

In addition, students who book the bundle fares will have the opportunity to win a welcome package, a Harrods VIP trip, or experience a tour and interview with British Airways’ senior management at Waterside, the company’s headquarters in London. They just need to send their booking reference number generated from ba.com along with personal information to the British Airways Sina Weibo account. Please visit weibo.com/britishairways for more details.

Starting May 5, British Airways operates the brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Chengdu route and increases the flight frequency from three to five per week.

Customers are urged to book early by calling the British Airways reservation center on 4008 810 207 or appointed agents in China on (86 10) 5879 7544 or (86 21) 6375 8385 or (86 28)6466 3891. More information on these fares is available at ba.com.
